The last safety check on the 11.4 km long Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor (phase 1 Mumbai Metro) will start on 18 April, 2014. The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) will conduct the safety check. This is the last step of the safety certification process and will determine whether the railway line has met with all technical rules and regulations. Not only that, it will also determine whether the line can be opened for public use. Mumbai Metro One (MMOPL) has undertaken the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor. If CMRS is satisfied with tests and trials, only then it will authorize MMOPL to open Phase-1 for public use. It is important to mention here that on 2nd April 2014, Research, Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) had issued its speed certificate for the stretch, after conducting speed trials on the line in February 2014. On 4 April, the promoter had applied to the CMRS for safety certification of the stretch. The total cost of the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar (VAG) metro corridor (Phase-I) is Rs 2,400 crore.
