ArcelorMittal receives 2,000 acres to set up 6 MTPA Bellary steel plant

Mumbai: ArcelorMittal has gained about 2,000 acres of land from the Karnataka government for developing a 6 MTPA steel plant at Kuditini in Bellary district. The company has already inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state government for setting up the plant involving an investment of Rs30,000 crore.

The acquisition follows the after recent withdrawal of Posco from Karnataka which was also aimed at setting up 6 MTPA steel plant. Meanwhile, ArcelorMittal had withdrawn its plan for developing a steel plant in Odisha.

Commenting on the lands allotted for developing similar projects, Karnataka Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah said, “The government has till now handled over about 1,274.53 acres to industries who inked MoUs at 2010 (excluding ArcelorMittal) and 794.45 acres was allotted through similar pacts in 2012.”
