The BharatBenz Tractors and Mining Tipper to trigger substantial transformation in Indian trucking

Delivering on its promised portfolio as per scheduled announced at inception, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) recently unveiled four new BharatBenz models. The new models added to the Daimler’s product basket include three tractor trailers (BharatBenz 4023TT, 4028TT and 4928TT) as well as a Mining tipper (BharatBenz 3128CM). While other variants are to be launched, this introduction of tractor models enhances the Bharat Benz’s range to cover segments from 9-49 tonnes GVW.

“With today’s introduction of models, BharatBenz is now present in all major segments of medium and heavy duty trucking,” states Marc Llistosella, Managing Director & CEO, DICV.

The 3128 Mining Tipper is designed to maximize productivity and generate greater revenues. Superior features and a sturdy build enable this tipper to handle any work and terrain conditions. The BharatBenz Tractors, on the other hand, are designed to deliver superior performance in the toughest of the Indian conditions. The product features will dramatically improve fuel efficiency and ensure that the truck stays on the road working relentlessly.

“Longer distances, unprecedented challenges and crunch deadlines nothing will faze the Bharat Benz Tractors,” opines VRV Sriprasad, Vice President – Marketing, Sales & Aftersales, DICV adding that the 3128 Tipper will work round-the-clock for your business, reducing your total cost of operations and increasing the profits you earn.

“BharatBenz is committed to Indian trucking,” expresses Llistosella, “and our rigorous study of the conditions has enabled us to build tractors ready to take on the challenges of the Indian terrain and business.”

The introduction of these trucks comes at the time when the Indian trucking industry is experiencing a tough phase. However, Daimler sees it as an opportunity. “You cannot avoid hard times or dooms. But the character of the company comes out when it is getting rough. The market environment is challenging not only for our competitors but us also. But this is also for us a chance, an opportunity to show what we have done, what we can do,” expresses Llistosella.

Starting with the launch of the first three heavy duty models in September 2012, BharatBenz subsequently unveiled its range of medium range trucks in February 2013 and range of Made-in-India trucks for exports under the FUSO brand in May 2013. Two more heavy duty trucks were also launched in 2013. Further models are planned besides its focus on Daimler Buses for India. On March 6, 2014, Daimler will have a ground breaking ceremony for Bharat Benz buses.

As a part of Daimler’s Trucks Asia strategy, the company launched a new range of Fuso trucks in May 2013 determined for export in Asian and African growth markets. By the end of the year, they will be available in more than ten countries which include countries like Kenya, Zambia, Mauritius and Indonesia.

In last 15 months of its presence in the Indian truck industry, BharatBenz has climbed 4th position in the industry in 2013. In January 2014, DICV won the ‘CV Maker of the Year’ while its truck 1217C won the ‘Innovation of the Year award and the 3128C won the ‘Best Rigid Haulage Carrier over 25 tonnes GVW’ at the industry leading Apollo CV Awards. “The awards besides adding fame to the brand’s performance in India also acknowledges the long sought positive transformation the brand BharatBenz has brought to Indian truckers,” states Sriprasad.
