PSG delivers value-added pump and system solutions to customers that require safe and efficient transfer of critical and valuable materials, states RAVI PRASAD, Director – Sales, Pump Solutions Group (PSG) India, Dover India Pvt Ltd.
How do you see the technological changes coming up in the pumps industry especially in the Indian market?
The pump industry is constantly looking for ways to improve safety, energy efficiency, reliability and maintenance. At PSG, we are continuously looking at ways to improve the design of our pumps by various innovative technologies and introducing completely new products in order to exceed our customer’s expectations. Employing pumps that are energy efficient, safe, reliable and easy to maintain should be the standard for every plant operator.
Let’s look at one of those areas in more detail…energy efficiency. There are several ways to improve the energy efficiency of pumping systems. For example, selecting the proper pump technology for the application, properly sizing pumps, improving the inlet/outlet conditions, lowering operating pressures and properly maintaining the equipment can all have a great impact on energy efficiency. In addition, PSG is very focused on providing the most energy efficient pump technologies. For example, Blackmer Smart Energy® sliding vane pumps offer significant energy savings when compared to similar technologies. In addition, Wilden prides itself on offering the most energy-efficient air-operated double diaphragm (AODD) pump technology on the market. Over the past several years, the WildenPro-Flo X air distribution system (ADS)was the best-in-class. However, in 2013 Wilden launched the next generation of AODD pumps called the Pro-Flo SHIFT. The Pro-Flo SHIFT represents a significant breakthrough in energy efficiency within the AODD pump category. The patent-pending Pro-Flo SHIFT ADS allows Wilden AODD pumps to achieve up to a 60% savings in air consumption over all other competitive AODD pump technologies, while providing more product yield per standard cubic foot per minute (SCFM).
What are the main competencies and offerings of Dover – Pump Solution Group in India?
PSG is proud to be built on true ‘innovators’ of pump technologies. With founding brands such as Wilden, Blackmer and Mouvex, innovators of air-operated double-diaphragm, sliding vane and eccentric disc pump technologies respectively; PSG has a core of products that are second-to-none. In addition to Blackmer, Wilden and Mouvex, we have well-known brands such as Abaque, Almatec, Maag, Neptune, Quattroflow and RedScrew that are leading the way in their respective pump technology segments. Recently, PSG has acquired Finder and Ebsray to add to its product portfolio. Together, we feel that we have a great base of brands to build on for the future. ‘Innovation’ is at the root of our business and we plan to roll out several new products over the coming year that will continue to improve the performance, reliability and efficiency of our products for our valuable customers in India.
Speaking of India specifically, we have been serving the Indian market for the last 20 years, by providing our Wilden and Blackmer products for many critical applications. During 2013, we introduced Neptune metering/dosing pumps for the power generation, water and wastewater segments. Neptune offers a highly reliable and precise metering pump that offers several advantages over similar technologies.
Brief us on the challenges faced while meeting the varied needs of Indian contractors?
Generally, EPC companies in India are keen to avoid cost and time overruns during the execution of their projects despite long gestation. During the execution of any projects we handle through EPC companies, we always ensure these two key factors are of paramount importance in our project execution methodologies. PSG’s global core-values are the best ‘on-time performance’ deliveries and cost competitiveness with world-class quality standards. We also gained extensive experience by making the template of our tacit knowledge on these two critical elements.
What are the value-added services offered by Dover Pumps?
PSG India features a state-of-the-art facility in India to demonstrate our global capabilities to India and its sub-continent clients by committing our ‘in-country’ presence. Several value additions we offer from our India facilities like pumps and compressors local skid assembly and integration, application engineering, client-specific quality assurance plan, engineering drawings and documents as required by EPC and engineering consultants specifications, testing of the products by coordinating third party inspection agency and local after-market on-site support till the equipment retirement. In short, We Build what we Bid.

Lastly, what is your outlook on the pump industry?
The pump industry continues to rebound from the global economic downturn of 2008-2009. Investment in water infrastructure and power generation in countries such as China and India will play a prominent role in global pump demand increasing in the near future. While there had been a halt to new project investments in the water industry, many companies, including PSG, are seeing more and more water companies investing in the technology necessary to upgrade its existing infrastructure. The pump industry will also see strong gains in the Oil & Gas industry as the world continues to prioritize the extraction of shale oil.
