Essar Ports commissions 12 mt Vadinar terminal

The company’s target to double its ports capacity to 158 million tonne by 2013 has boosted the company’s decision to venture into the recent expansion plan. With this, the port’s capacity will go up to 58 million tonnes per annum, taking Essar’s total capacity to 88 million tonnes per annum. Capacity addition plan is line with the company’s refinery expansion to 18 million tonnes as part of the phase 1 expansion which will be raised to 20 million tonnes, scheduled to be completed by September 2012.

State-run ports to raise `5,000 cr: Shipping Min

Shipping Ministry has declared that two of the country’s major ports and a proposed company will raise `5,000 crore by investing and acquiring stakes in overseas port and container terminals. The amount will be executed through the issue of tax-free bonds by March 2012.

JNPT plans mega terminal project

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) plans to build a mega terminal at Nhava Sheva which can raise its capacity by 8-10 million TEUs. It further plans to build a ship repair facility at the port and is seeking for a property near Raigad from a public sector entity to build a special economic zone (SEZ). The port trust, will add another 4.8 million TEUs once its proposed fourth terminal is constructed. The `6,700 crore contract is bagged by a consortium led by ABG Infra and PSA. For the mega terminal, JNPT is looking to acquire land from City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO) and the state government.
