The Union Surface Transport Ministry expressed that the proposal to upgrade two major highways in the state of Andhra Pradesh to the National Highways at the cost of Rs 1,000 crore is agreeable.
Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari communicated to the State Government that the Centre may consider its request to upgrade roads connecting Ananthpur with Amaravati – Kurnool on the NH 65,with a stretch of 452 km.
The proposal also seeks approval to facilitate construction and upgradation of Kurnool, Kadapa and Anantapur stretch connecting to NH 40 and NH 65 a total stretch of 132 km. The approval to convert four lane into six and eight depends on the viability of these locations.
The State Government will acquire land for the same process, whereas the Centre is managing to fund Rs 1000 crore for the same projects. NHAI will start working on this project once all the necessary approvals regarding land acquisition are in place. NHAI will take up the work in PPP mode.
The State has been informed that the NHAI will fund the project. The Centre has given it’s clearance while the State Government’s decision is pending.
The Transport Ministry has also approved the 186 km Outer Ring Road (ORR) project in Amaravati.
The said proposal will connect Srikakulam, Anantapur, Kurnool and Kadapa to the State capital within 4-5 hours.
