Zuari Cement lays foundation stone for its 3.23 mt cement plant in K’taka

Gulbarga: Zuari Cement Ltd, part of the worldwide Italcementi Group, on Tuesday laid foundation stone for its a 3.53 million tonnes cement plant at Gulbarga, Karnataka. The company is establishing a cement plant through its subsidiary Gulbarga Cement Ltd (GCL).

Strategically located 28 km from Gulbarga city on the Gulbarga – Bangalore highway, the unit is an important investment for Italcementi in India. Besides, a 2 million ton capacity clinker the cement project will also come up with a 50 MW captive power plant.

Land for the project has been acquired as Gulbarga Cement is in possession of 1821 acres of land. The company has received approval for the same from The Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board [KIADB] on the 3rd September 2014.

The unit is designed to double its capacity as part of the future plans to cater the growing demand in the northern segment of Karnataka and also the adjoining state of Maharashtra.

After the foundation stone laying ceremony, the first step would be to commence mining activity.

The foundation stone laying ceremony was inaugurated by Nabil Francis (Managing Director Zuari Cement) along with Ramesh Suryanarayana (Director Business Development); accompanied by the local employees of Gulbarga Cement headed by Surendra Pattar (Site Manager), other senior executives of Zuari Cement, Government officials and the farmers who have given away the land.

The project once completed will take Zuari Cement’s total capacity to 10 million tonnes, growing to be one amongst the largest cement manufacturers in southern India.
