The Sweden-based commercial vehicle and engine manufacturer, Scania, is likely to begin production of Scania Metrolink buses at its Bengaluru facility by next month. Rs 300 crore was invested to set up the manufacturing facility. The manufacturing facility was set up with an investment of Rs 300 crore. The facility, situated at Narasapura near Bengaluru, will have the capacity to produce about 1,500 buses initially. They will be Metrolink coaches between 13.7 and 14.5 metre sizes and will have 100 per cent indigenisation of bus body. Scania has set a target of selling 2,500 trucks and 1,000 buses per year during the next five years. So far, Scania India has sold 35 buses. They are planning to sell about 150 buses in India this year and 450 buses next year.
